We offer the Lumenis® Lightsheer Diode Laser, Cutera™ XEO Yag Laser, Cocoon Medical’s Primelase  Laser, and an option of  Palomar’s Starlux™ 500 IPL for a combination of hair removal and anti-aging in one (for face only). Selecting between 4 lasers for hair removal allows us to treat all skin types, including dark, African American, and tanned skin. We will determine which laser is most appropriate for your skin type during a free consultation.

The Laser Hair Removal Procedure

The laser targets pigment located in the hair follicle. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and retards the hair follicle and its regrowth. Given that the pigment is targeted, blond, red, white or grey hair is ineffective for laser treatment. In these cases, electrolysis may be recommended and is available at LaserSpa.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments are required?

Depending on the area you wish to have treated, at least 5 treatments (average 6-8) may be necessary. Age, ethnicity, hormones, medication, and metabolism may affect your hair’s location, thickness, and resilience. Hair grows in phases and not all follicles are actively growing at the same time, therefore treatments are scheduled according to the growth cycle of that area (typically every 4-10 weeks).

Does it Hurt / What should I expect?

Each laser has its own cooling mechanism, which has anesthetic properties, therefore minimizing discomfort. You may still experience a slight snapping sensation. The treatment is quick and usually tolerated well. Anesthetic cream is available for purchase if you find it necessary. Following treatment, you may have some redness or swelling, which usually subsides within a few hours.

Is it Permanent?

Although no laser removal can be termed “permanent”, long-term clinical studies concluded that 92% of patients have long-term hair loss following treatment with our technology. Recurring hairs were shown to be thinner and lighter than they were previously. Periodic “touch-ups” or maintenance may be required.

Are there pre-treatment instructions?

YES. It is most important that you follow the pre-treatment instructions. No tanning for four to six weeks before laser treatment. You must disclose to us whether or not you have tanned. This includes sun exposure, tanning bed, or chemical tanner. This disclosure must come before every treatment. Problems may occur if this disclosure is not made.

What’s the cost of Laser Hair Removal?

At LaserSpa of Tampa Bay, we try to make laser treatments affordable to everyone by offering competitive prices. Rates vary based on the area treated. Packages are available.
