Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers of skin cells. When the skin recovers, it will be smooth, new skin. With a light or medium peel, you may need to undergo the procedure more than once to get the desired results.
Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin, acne and acne scars that are usually on the face but our Aestheticians can treat the full body. Chemical Peels can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures, like microneedling, to enhance the benefits of the treatments.
There are 3 different depths of a chemical peel: Light, medium, and deep peels. Medium to deep chemical peels offer more dramatic results.
Superficial or light peels: Alpha-hydroxy acids are mainly for a light chemical peel. They penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate skin cells. The treatment improves the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands. These peels are a great start if you have never done a chemical peel and it will prepare your skin for more intensive treatments.
Medium peels: Jessner, salicylic or trichloroacetic acid are used for a medium depth peel. These penetrate the outer and middle layers of skin to rejuvenate skin cells. This treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and acne scars and it can also be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths (i.e. actinic keratosis).
Deep peel: Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or PRX-T33 is applied to deeply penetrate the middle and deep layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. This treatment improves deeper wrinkles, deep aging spots and skin laxity.

ARE CHEMICAL PEELS PAINFUL?
Chemical peels sting but do not cause a great deal of pain. The gentlest peels use alpha-hydroxy like glycolic, lactic or fruit acids that are more gentle on the skin. Medium and deep peels may cause stinging, redness, and some irritation but as the skin begins to heal, these effects will resolve. Sun exposure and smoking after a chemical peel must be avoided because they can cause unwanted side effects, including infection and scarring.
