What is Ultherapy®?
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for collagen stimulation under the chin, on the neck, and improve lines and wrinkles on the decollete. This treatment acts as a non-surgical face-lifting and skin-tightening procedure.!
Ultherapy harnesses the power of ultrasound to transform the brow, chin, neck and chest. Ultrasound, of course, has been used throughout the medical field for more than 50 years—and Ultherapy has been established as effective in clinical studies and in over a million treatments worldwide.
The safety and efficacy of Ultherapy have been established through clinical studies and over 1 million treatments performed worldwide. Ultherapy is FDA-cleared to lift the skin on the neck, under the chin, and on the brow, as well as to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the chest.
How Does Ultherapy Work?
Ultherapy® lifts and sculpts skin using micro-focused ultrasound energy. While most collagen-boosting treatments only reach the dermis, completely missing the foundational tissue layers where laxity begins, Ultherapy is focused at skin depths between 1.5mm and 4.5mm. This results in the stimulation of new collagen and elastin as part of the healing process in both the dermis and its foundational connective tissues.
Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to deliver its collagen-boosting treatment. It also incorporates traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue they are treating, ensuring the treatment energy is delivered to where it will be most beneficial.
Ultherapy Builds New Collagen
The Ultherapy procedure stimulates collagen production by delivering focused ultrasound energy to the skin’s foundational layer typically addressed in cosmetic surgery—without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. This energy produces heat, causing collagen contraction and denaturation, and resulting in aggressive collagen synthesis.
No Downtime. Natural Results.
Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results appear over 2−3 months* as new collagen works to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow as well as smooth skin on the chest. While Ultherapy won’t duplicate the results of a facelift, it’s a clinically proven non-invasive alternative for those not ready for surgery—and can even be an option for patients who wish to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
No Toxins or Needles
Unlike lasers, radio frequency, surgery and other technologies, non-surgical Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin to deliver the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and the right temperature. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, jumpstarting the regenerative process that produces fresh, new collagen.
Common Ultherapy Questions
How much does Ultherapy cost?
Pricing for an Ultherapy treatment can vary, depending upon the areas being treated. Treatment will be customized to meet each patient’s needs, and exact pricing can be discussed during our complimentary consultation.
Does Ultherapy have side effects?
There may be slight redness that typically resolves within a few hours following the treatment. Some patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
Is Ultherapy safe?
The Ulthera® System is currently marketed worldwide in more than 60 countries, and over 1 million treatments have been performed globally.7 In addition, ultrasound energy has a proven track record, with use in the field of medicine for more than 50 years.
How many treatments does Ultherapy take?
The majority of patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment, depending on how much skin laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and the collagen-building process.
How long does Ultherapy last?
Since the procedure stimulates a person’s own collagen production, how long the results last depends on the individual. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but the individual’s natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside. Future touch-up treatments can help provide more control over the aging process, which varies by individual.
What does the Ultherapy treatment feel like?
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you may feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, stimulating the collagen-building process. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.
What to know before your treatment
What to Know Before Your Ultherapy Treatment
Ultherapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production and lift the skin. It’s a popular choice for those looking to tighten and firm areas like the face, neck, and décolletage without undergoing surgery. If you’re considering Ultherapy, here’s what you should know before your treatment:
1. Understand the Procedure
- How It Works: Ultherapy delivers ultrasound energy deep into the skin layers, targeting the same foundational layers typically addressed in surgical facelifts, but without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.
- Treatment Areas: Common areas treated include the brow, chin, neck, and chest. It can also be used to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
2. What to Expect During the Treatment
- Duration: The treatment typically takes between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
- Sensation: During the procedure, you may feel a sensation of heat and tingling as the ultrasound energy is delivered into your skin. Some discomfort is common, but it varies from person to person. Pain management options like oral medication or topical anesthetics may be offered.
- No Downtime: One of the key benefits of Ultherapy is that there is no downtime. You can return to your normal activities immediately after the procedure.
3. Preparation Before Your Appointment
- Medications: Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin for a few days before the treatment, as they can interfere with the body’s healing process.
- Skin Care: Ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup or other products on the day of the treatment. Your practitioner may recommend avoiding sun exposure and certain skincare products like retinoids in the weeks leading up to your appointment.
- Hydration: Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your procedure, as hydrated skin can help improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
4. Realistic Expectations
- Gradual Results: Ultherapy results are not immediate. As collagen production is stimulated, you’ll notice gradual tightening and lifting over the course of 2 to 3 months. Some individuals may see continued improvement for up to 6 months.
- Results Duration: While Ultherapy can deliver long-lasting results, it’s not permanent. Most people experience results that last about 1 to 2 years, after which touch-up treatments may be necessary.
- Multiple Sessions: Depending on your skin’s condition and your desired results, more than one session may be needed.
5. Potential Side Effects
- Temporary Effects: Common side effects include mild swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated areas, which usually resolve within a few hours to a few days.
- Rare Side Effects: In rare cases, you may experience temporary numbness, bruising, or slight welts. These effects typically subside within a few days to weeks.
6. Choosing the Right Practitioner
- Experience Matters: Ensure that a qualified and experienced practitioner such as the LaserSpa of Tampa Bay performs your Ultherapy treatment. They should thoroughly understand facial anatomy and experience using Ultherapy equipment.
- Consultation: A pre-treatment consultation is essential to discuss your goals, evaluate your skin, and determine if Ultherapy is the right choice.
7. Cost Consideration
- Pricing: Ultherapy is an investment. The cost varies depending on the area treated and the provider, typically ranging from $500 to $4,000 per session.
- Financing Options: Some clinics offer financing plans or package deals that can make the treatment more affordable.
8. Aftercare Tips
- Gentle Care: Post-treatment, treat your skin gently. Avoid harsh skincare products or exfoliants for a few days.
- Sun Protection: Protect your skin from sun exposure by wearing sunscreen, as your skin may be more sensitive after the procedure.
By being well-prepared and understanding what to expect, you can ensure a smooth and successful Ultherapy experience, leading to firmer, younger-looking skin.
